What are Biologicals?

Biologicals are agricultural technologies that harness nature to protect and improve the health of food crops facing the stresses of today’s rapidly changing world

The three main types of biologicals are: biocontrol’s, bio-stimulants and nutrient use efficiency (NUE) products.

Biocontrols

Biocontrols control pests and diseases. They are naturally occurring materials that are used to control fungal and bacterial diseases, insect pests, nematodes and weeds.

Biostimulants

Biostimulants enhance and strengthen crops. They are applied to plants, seeds or the root environment to stimulate the natural processes of plants, benefiting nutrient use efficiency, tolerance to abiotic stress and crop quality.
Nutrient use efficiency (NUE) products

Nutrient Use Efficiency (NUE) products are biological products that are used for fixing Nitrogen, Phosphorus solubilization, improving nutrient availability and uptake, and promoting plant growth and soil heath.

RETROSAL® is an innovative biostimulant that improves plant growth on saline soils. Thanks to the innovative Geapower technology (GEA216) the formula of RETROSAL® has been enhanced, obtaining the right solution to help plants remain vigorous and to attain excellent yields even under high salinity stress conditions, by restoring plant health and water retention levels. Moreover RETROSAL® is enriched with Calcium and specific active ingredients, that act to counter Na displacement and improve physical and chemical soil conditions.  We carried out an “omics” approach to characterize the physiological effect of RETROSAL® using different model plants (Arabidopsis thaliana and lettuce). The results have shown that the application of RETROSAL® under salinity stress activates genes/pathways involved in osmotic adjustment and synthesis of compatible solutes to tolerate salinity stress condition.
